Controlling the size and morphology of primary eutectic Mg2Si phase via modification refinement (i.e., Ca P addition) in Al-Mg2Si-based alloys containing higher percentages Si Mg is great necessity to ensure their high performance. The present investigation mainly aimed elucidate effect on nucleation growth pattern high-purity Al-13.1 wt.% near-eutectic with without additions Ca. It was found that purity levels raw starting materials exert a significant influence near-binary Al-Mg2Si. presence suppresses precipitation ternary Al-Mg2Si-Si. low promotes faceted Mg2Si, while at sufficiently Ca, Al2Si2Ca intermetallic formed changed from fibers/or globules blocks or plates. current importance for further development high-performance cast alloys.
